His army career included robbing a bank as an initiative test and attempting to interrupt the filming of Dr. Doolittle in the West Country. More alarmingly he has been seconded for active service in the most inhospitable corner of Arabia and has led a hovercraft expedition from the mouth to the source of the Nile. It is this last exploit which is mainly described in A Talent For Trouble.
It was a ticklish and dangerous assignment and only the resourcefulness, courage, cheerfulness and sheer insouciance of Ranulph Fiennes and his hard-pressed companions brought success to the adventure-packed life.
