Oh, why did I take such a long break on this series? But at least that means I can finish the whole thing in one fell swoop.
The plot thickensAs season 2 of Tremontaine gets up to speed, the power of knowledge becomes more and more apparent: Who has it, who doesn't, and who accidentally gives up more of than they intend to.
Diane weaves her spider's webs in her goal to become Duchess of Tremontaine in her own right. Other schemers unwittingly become her puppets, and the innocent are endangered by her carefully laid snares. Meanwhile, the 'true loves' of both Kaab and Rafe are assailed by new and exotic temptations. Will their romantic loyalties erode and crumble?We won't find out in this episode... on to the next!
Thanks to netgalley.com and Serial Box publishing for the advance ARC copy for my honest review. I just find with the Tremontaine series, that the author Joel Derfner is the only one that I don't like, not a fan of his slow paced writing style, it's like he reins it in, makes reading his editions to be slow and compared to what Mary Anne Mohanraj did with 'Fireworks' the episode before this one or what Alaya Dawn Johnson did with 'Alive and Home Here' episode after. Ok, I loved the first season. But for some reason the 2nd season is just falling flat to me. The characters feel awkward, especially Ixkaab and Tess.

Now that's what I'm talking about! Derfner as usual delivers (by now, he is among my favourite writers of this series). Threads of the story continue to become further and further entangled, but there seems to be no clear answer as to where this may lead the characters. Diane gets to shine - while her gambit is fairly simple, the execution and the way it is written makes it fun to witness. There is some real humour and it's just very readable and well-paced. I enjoyed this book, the fourth part in the second series as it was really developing the story.I do feel that I am at a slight disadvantage as I did not read the first series but I am still enjoying these, possibly if I had read the first series I would have given a higher rating but still 4 stars is good and looking forward to the next part.
