Ed Vandyke: Graduate School Is Murder

A University of Chicago graduate student is found dead from a bullet to the head. Detective Ed VanDyke and his partner, Vanessa, are led on a circuitous route to find the murderer. Suspects include ex-boyfriends, faculty advisors, corrupt aldermen, and gang-bangers. Ed, a Texas transplant, and Vanessa, an African-American woman, are thrown together as partners due to their status as outsiders, and proceed to become the best homicide detectives in the city. This case turns out to be a challenge, but ultimately they are up to the task, via the Southside, the Northside, the suburbs, and whatever lead calls out to them.
