The Unexpected Bride

The late 1800's saw men from the East Coast rushing to the West in search of new lives. Robert Thompson had been one of those men. When he left Boston with only the clothes on his back, he only had hopes of joining the search for gold. However, along the way, he befriended an old rancher, who passed on his ranch to the younger man on his death bed. Suddenly finding himself a wealthy landowner, Robert also discovered oil on his land, and became one of the richest men in the US. However, life on his ranch was hard, and his ranch hands and oil crew needed access to medical care readily available. When he put out an advertisement in the East Coast papers, he never expected that the person he hired would be a woman. With doubts in her abilities, he reluctantly let her stay on until he could find a man to replace her. However, as time wore on, a relationship developed. Could the unexpected woman be not only the answer he was looking for on his ranch, but also be the one thing he didn't realize he was missing from his life?

This is a standalone short story with a HEA ending.
