Literary conventions and medieval fantasy setting game board to the rescue! Deadpool needs a time out and an item/person needs to be acquired.
A good mix of stories. Art is a mix of ok to great, aka Gurihiru's section. It's still funny and this volume had more crossovers made for some fun stories. The Christmas issue was the weak link story here but still worth a read. If you liked the other volumes this one is also recommended.Stories: 3.5/5Art: 3.5/5Overall: 3.5/5
Gwenpool remains extremely entertaining. I really liked this volume because it throws all the rules out and goes full Meta, even more so than the past. This time we have a lot of special guest. The biggest story here is Gwenpool going into a cave that becomes a RPG style DnD style game. Who's the main boss though? None other than the vicious DEADPOOL. And Gwenpool has met her match because she doesn't read Deadpool! Good: Loved the dialog between Gwenpool and Deadpool, made me laugh so much. I l...
Without a shred of doubt Gwenpool In this third volume is still a pretty solid comedy comic. The first number is quite funny, Gwen decides that in order to distract from her existential problems she would look for more complicated jobs at the degree of "suicidal" and this is how she arrives to a ghost town in the desert "Doodkill"; loaded with garlic, wooden stakes, silver bullets and stuff like that to exterminate a vampire who seems to be bothering people.(view spoiler)[Later we realize tha...
You knew Gwen was going to encounter Deadpool sooner or later, right? Fortunately, it doesn't disappoint. "A fellow fourth wall breaker! How fun!" The battle with Arcade and the Christmas special--especially the Red Skull story--were the high points of this volume for me. I don't hate the other stories--I rather liked the Buffy references in the Blade story, even. They just didn't grab me as much. The Ghost Rider story got a bit tedious, though this new development with Cecil seems promising. An...
Wait...that's the title Gwen doesn't read.I really don't want to like this title, but it is whitty and Gwen is really every comic fan!
A huge step down for Gwenpool. There's a Gwen, Better Hawkeye, and Ghost Rider team-up (#14-15) that's almost up to the standards of the previous volumes. It's funny, it's irreverent, and it's got great (funny) characterization for our guest stars. But the rest of the stories in this are sub-standard.A Blade and undead comic (#11) is pretty much built on one joke. A D&D comic (#12-13) is better, as it gets to do some deconstruction of fantasy roleplaying, but it's still too scant in its funny. Th...
This is the best issue so far as she finds her footing as a character in the world and the other characters who are not crossover characters get fleshed out. It definitely helps that I recognize almost everyone who shows up from another comic and get most of the jokes about them. Otherwise this might be pretty hard to read.
[Read as single issues]Considering Gwenpool was created as a joke character, we're three volumes into the series now and I cannot stop telling people how much I love her. These issues are a little more zany in terms of story compared to the more heavy duty storytelling in the previous (and following) arc, but that doesn't mean they're not a great addition to the character.First we get another look at how Gwen's 'power' of comic book knowledge comes in handy as she, her friends from MODOK, and De...
Totally In Continuity is the first misfire in Christopher Hastings’ otherwise excellent Unbelievable Gwenpool run. Not that it’s completely bad but it’s definitely not as good as the first two books. I think that’s because it’s a grab-bag of random stories so this volume feels like a transition/buffer book between the first story arc and the next. It opens with a throwaway story where Gwen’s hired to protect some supernatural folk from Blade the Vampire Hunter. It’s a meh read and unfortunately
Consistently OK, with a few really funny lines scattered throughout. I'm intrigued by the ending, though...
Wacky, meta fun and possibly the best volume so far. This series always delivers a delightful range of cameos, and that trend does not stop here. Additionally, one of the central stories - laden with references to traditional RPG games - is just kind of amazing. Plus - Gwenpool meets the one character I've most waited for her to encounter, and it's just about everything I could have hoped for. Hijinks, hilarity, and heart - I love this series.Postscript - the holiday special mashup was hit and m...
I don't know... it becomes more over the top than it needs to be. Also what is up with creativity these days? Comic books were the source of unique stuff and now every new character that we get is focused on these damn cross-overs. I mean, come on! Just stop with these Moraleses, Ghost Riders...With that said, I loved the two issues that were a parody of fantasy games. Even the crossover cameo was put in nicely.
Gwenpool, not to be confused with Deadpool or Stacy, is back for another round of adventures. The dialog is witty, the writing is clever, and the tone is good-natured and light-hearted. I didn't think the art was as good as the first volume, but it's serviceable. It's a fun book, not especially memorable, but nice like a warm chocolate chip cookie
I'm not a Deadpool comics fan. But Gwenpool surprises me pretty much every time and this book was no exception. Sure the Christmas story in the end was a lot weaker and had a lot less Gwenpool. But even it wasn't all bad. The writing and art are silly but in a working way. And Gwen taking charge on the dungeon crawl was actually pretty good. Heck the 4th wall conversation with Deadpool was even good. The side adventure with Hawkeye and Ghost Rider shouldn't have worked but it captured the spirit...
The first half was really good. Lots of fun and great cameos/ team ups, but the last couple of chapters were pretty pointless. The last chapters revolved around different holiday traditions, and by different I mean made up. It was pretty boring stuff that I found myself skimming it, especially since it had nothing to do with what seems to be a developing story line. I liked that for a second it was getting kind of serious, but to see that all dropped for pointless, random chapters was like, "com...
THIS IS MY FAVORITE VOLUME OF GWENPOOL SO FAR totally excluding the holiday special at the end which was garbage!Pros:-Hastings's writing is wonderful, even though each issue is a totally different story instead of the usual full arc-Gurihiru is the best artist team in the business-everything is still ridiculous but hilarious-the cameos in this one include: Blade, Robbie freaking Reyes, Kate Bishop, and DEADPOOL-need I say more?Cons:-the entire "holiday special" was cringey and painful because i...
Unbelievable Gwenpool used to be my palette cleanser between books, but no longer! This volume was an unbelievable waste of time.Gwen’s stories used to be on the fluffier and wackier side, but they still made sense and served a greater purpose: to flesh out Gwenpool’s understanding of herself in a comic book universe, her “powers,” and the limits of her recklessness. But here, the one-off adventures feel aimless, uninspired, and uninteresting. Gwen goes to a town to take care of a vampire, and s...
Five stars for a more entertaining RPG scenario than Ready Player One, particularly for making Deadpool a secondary character in another fourth-wall breaking book. And another fifth star for working on pathos and character development. And another fifth star for the Christmas collection at the end.
A mixed bag of great and not so great stories. The Arcade 2 parter is fantastic. I can't think of a better setting for a meta character. I also like in her team-up with Kate Bishop who she kept referring to Kate as the better Hawkeye. The Holiday Special was a piece of garbage. Only the first 10 pages or so were about Gwen. It does go to show you how terrible of a writer Ryan North is. He writes the story immediately following Christopher Hastings and it's just awful.
