Excerpt from Selection of Seed Grains, Crop Growing: Evidence of Mr. G. H. Clark, Seed Commissioner, With "Seed Control Act" Annexed, by Order Before the Select Standing Committee on Agriculture and Colonization, 1905

Mr. G. H. Clark, Seed Commissioner, Department of Agriculture, appeared be fore the committee and delivered the following address: Hon. Mr. Greenway and gentlemen, -as this is the first time I have had the honour of appearing before you, perhaps you will permit me to refer briefly to the train ing I had before I took up the work in which I am now engaged. Except for the time that I was attending the common and high schools, the first twenty-five years of my experience was obtained on the farm, near Brantford, Ont., where I was born. I entered the Agricultural College at Guelph in February, 1896, and graduated in June, 1898, when I was given a position on the staff under Professor Zavitz, who has charge of the experiments in field crops. I received a letter from my late esteemed chief, Prof. Robert son, in March, 1900, stating that I had been recommended to him to take the work of which I now have direct charge as Seed Commissioner.
