Billy’s story makes for compulsive reading, a seven year roller-coaster that will make you laugh, cry and make you want to pull out your hair. Time and time again Billy spurned opportunities to address his gambling and halt his free-fall into self- destruction. Family relations were irreparably strained and loved ones hurt as Billy went on a gambling spree were the only thing that mattered was how to get cash to gamble. His depravity knew no bounds, stealing from close friends, family and even vulnerable children within his care to feed his addiction.
Fortunately Billy had a devoted girlfriend who inexplicably stood by him, most of his friends and family had by now washed their hands of him. But she saw something deep within him others could not see. Through no small amount of dogged determination, she helped him combat his demons. Her chapter is a heart rending reflection of those times, freely admitting that she feels she can no longer trust anyone after living with the lies and deceit generated by a compulsive gambler.
Billy has been clear of gambling for over twelve years, but it has not been easy. Follow him as he moves from a full time teaching role into setting up his own business to become a well-respected member of the community.
This book is dedicated to those gamblers and families who are stuck on the roller-coaster. It’s a message of hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel should you wish to accept help and get off.
