In Search of Piero: Guide to the Tuscany of Piero Della Francesca

In Search of Piero: Guide to the Tuscany of Piero Della Francesca

Attilio Brilli
3/5 ( ratings)
Piero della Francesca is a unique rather than unusual case of a great renaissance artist, who remained resident in his native village throughout his life, and whose most important works are still to be found today within a small and well defined area. The route taken by either the modern traveller or the straightforward tourist in search of Piero della Francesca may coincide exactly with that taken by Piero himself during his travels as an apprentice, student and artist. The road, which led from Florence, the very centre of Tuscan civilisation, to Borgo San Sepolcro, the small town situated on the borders of Umbria, Romagnia and Le Marche, represented for many years one of the main connections between dominions and principalities; as such it has been described with authority many times.
