I reread this and other works by Reich on occasion. He is pedantic, and also, later in life, decided he was surrounded by idiots (he was half right) and had to do everything himself, like discover the principles of a new energy source based on the human sexuality, to give you an idea! But I think he is very convincing in his manner of moralizing from basic principles, and he relates many of mankind's problems to repression of human sexuality, in a way that is kind of convincing although disturbi...
This book by controversial psychiatrist Wilhelm Reich is unlikely to appeal to traditional Christian believers. Reich theorises that Jesus must have had sex with one or more of the women who surrounded him during his ministry. If Jesus was a naturally loving individual, Reich concludes, he must have exhibited the free genital expression intrinsic to a healthy character structure. Reich was not a traditional believer. He views Jesus as a man whose presence had a profound impact on the world becau...
Wilhelm Reich treats Christ as a universal value rather than a religious character to analyze the history, the dilemma and the potential of human Freedom.
In a way this book is more curious than interesting, but it is remarkable in that Reich somehow intuits a lot of the teachings of Jesus in a very elemental way, even if it remains wrapped up in his fascination with the body. Somehow that should perhaps not surprise us, for the student whom Freud picked over Jung to defend himself and his system against "the rising tide of occultism," as represented by Jung in his mind. With Reich, Freud wanted to erect a sexual rampart against such nefarious inf...
Don't let the fact that Reich turned into something of a nut later in his intellectual career stop you from enjoying his mid-career output. This is a great book containing his most powerful critique of the religious impulse. I'm just going to include some of my notes. I don't know if these are direct quotes or paraphrases. (My comments in brackets.)p 498All lost actual virtues of nature reappear as ideal virtues, to be striven after. With this, the dichotomy between the Devil, who is a perverted...
Wow read the book and i love it
