The island of New Paradise in the Micronesia region of the South Pacific is a pristine, tropical paradise. It has had many landlords over the years, from the Filipinos, to the Chinese, French, Portuguese, English, Dutch, and finally the Japanese. But none stayed for long, no development was ever completed, and no one knows why.
Thirty-eight year old Ty Luckett has a long history of losing. From poker, to the stock market, to women, he has almost always found a way to end up on the wrong side of things. When Ty gets a letter from a mysterious South Pacific lawyer he rushes to the remote island of New Paradise to collect an unexpected inheritance, and possibly one last shot at success. Once there he gets involved with a sexy but flaky beauty, a ruthless developer, and the Tamota - a race of short, friendly, but dangerously powerful people. What was supposed to be an easy hit-and-run quickly turns into a fight for survival and Ty is forced to go ALL-IN but, as inner demons surface, he realizes he might not be up to the task.
