Ash flounders through time to try and help Xena. Each issue Ash is called back in time by Xena when a Deadite army is about ready to destroy her. Ash keeps appearing at the wrong point in Xena's life. The Good: Scott Lobdell's got Ash's characterization and quips down cold. He sounds just like Ash from the movies. Elliot Fernandez's art is very good. A little reminiscent of Terry Dodson or Adam Hughes. The Bad: These time travel trips of Ashes had no purpose. They should have told stories from Xen...
I have to admit that I was a bit unsure about this Army of Darkness and Xena collaboration. Mostly because I have never really been a fan of the Army of Darkness movies. All I saw when I found this volume to read on NetGalley was Xena and well the Army of Darkness part did I realize soon after. However, this volume Forever and a Day is quite a nice story with Ash trying to get back in time to help Xena and Gabrielle, but he keeps on getting back to the wrong time. Or is he? It's a fast read and I...
Xena has lost a major battle and Gabrielle is dying, so she calls Ash for help by ripping up a piece of paper (yes, I know what the paper is, but it sounds more ridiculous this way). He’s in the middle of wooing—sexually harassing—an intern at the S-mart when he whooshes back in time, only to have Xena not recognize him. Turns out he whooshed to the wrong time and has to go back, waiting for the second issue to get it right. . . nope, not then either. It’s suddenly Ancient Greece’s version of Gr...
It is what it is and doesn't try to be anything more - Xena was always mostly fun with a side-order and some sprinkling of "heavy" and Ash and the Army of Darkness are about the grim and ultra-violent with a side of not-so-serious and goofy. This comic embraces that and in fact, credit to Lobdell, it weaves a nice little time-travel tale to good effect. As a big scifi fan, trust me when I say it's easier to get time-travel stories and setups wrong than it is to get them right and here I was genui...
2.5 starsWhen I think Xena, Warrior Princess, I picture this:And not this:The comics-Xena felt too much like a superhero, too glamorous. Not sure I can explain this the right way. TV-Xena is also hot and a kick-arse lady, but she feels a bit rougher. And that's the warrior princess I grew up with and love.Otherwise, the art was nice and the story ok. I like time-travel, but I'm not big on repetitiveness. It's just not my thing. *Copy provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an h...
I've disliked virtually every ARMY OF DARKNESS comic I've ever read (apart from one of Steve Niles's runs as well as Ash's encounter with the Marvel zombies), but FOREVER...AND A DAY takes the cake. For the first five issues, Ash bounces around through time not really accomplishing anything. We assume he's picking up information that will come in handy during the story's climax. We assume the writer is setting us up for a clever finale. Boy, do we assume wrong! The "big reveal" of the story's vil...
This is sort of what you'd expect, but not exactly. It was silly (duh) but still not a bad read. I was expecting a team up with Ash and Xena battling deadites, but there was really only a little of that. Each issue had Ash appearing in a different time of Xena's life, before the big battle at the end. There really wasn't a ton of action in this one, at least not the over the top stuff I was expecting, but it was entertaining and never got boring. If you're a fan of either franchise, it's worth a...
This was a pretty decent story but not up to what I'd been expecting from Scott Lobdell. Xena is in a crucial end-of-the-world battle and summons Ash. He comes through to the wrong point in time though so it keeps happening over and over just like "Groundhog Day" until Xena, etc, retain some memory and are able to make things go in the direction they want. Not too keen on the art, btw.
'Army of Darkness/Xena Warrior Princess: Forever....And A Day' by Scott Lobdell with illustrations by Elliot Fernandez is a fun crossover featuring Ash and Xena. It's the end of the world for Xena and Gabrielle. Their only hope is to call on....Ash Williams? Ash is minding his own business when he gets sucked in to a time warp and finds himself helping Xena, only she doesn't know who he is, and Ash knows they've met before. Thus begins a romp through time with the clues in plain sight and lots of...
***** I got a digital copy of this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.I've been a huge fan of Scott Lobdell for years so I may be a little biased, but I loved this. I was looking through the list of graphic novels that anyone could download and read on Netgalley and stumbled upon this title. As soon as I saw the book, I clicked the link to download. This just looked like it would be fun. It wasn't until I it finished downloading that I realized it was written by Lobdell. At that poi...
I was wavering between a 3 and a 4 on this one and since we can't give half stars here and I really liked the art style (always a plus in a graphic novel) I'm going with 4.I have to admit I knew nothing about Ash (or the Army of Darkness). I looked it up after I finished reading and at least that explained who Ash reminded me of. (Bruce Campbell)This is a time travel story, and for a while there I was a tad confused as to what was going on. But it was fun trying to work out what was happening. A...
+Digital-copy gently provided by Netgalley in exchange for a honest review+3.3*Follows the weird and silly fashion of some episodes of Xena. This is an adventure starting with a major event -Gabrielle and Xena in big trouble- and asking the help of Ash Williams (from Army of Darkness). That turn out not as they expect. So... fights, pirates, time travel, S-Mart, not a clue, deadites, and... loopy things.Well... action and horror comedy. Is more Ash than Xena in this comic.I enjoy it until that l...
I always feel like a non DC/Marvel comic book is going to be a big hit or miss. Fortunately, this one was a hit. I grew up watching Xena on TV and she's still a character I love so incredibly much (dare I say she and gabrielle were my gay awakening? I'll say it). Xena was a badass, the battle scenes were very well written and woven in the story and as for Xena and Gabrielle's love? That was breathtaking. My seven-year-old self is still beaming and crying tears of joy.The story arc relies heavily...
A frothy bit of nonsense that's more likely to appeal to Ash fans as opposed to Xena's, on account of how much each has to do. Neither are exactly proactive in a silly story, however, and one wonders how Xena can be such a great fighter when she looks boss-eyed half the time. A lot of room for improvement here – sometimes the plot can progress so poorly you're even more confused than Ash seems to be.

Scott Lobdell and Elliot Fernandez have created a fun miniseries with Forever and a Day that manages to capture the spirit of both Ash and Xena in what at first appears to be a strange collaboration. The six-comic stand alone story, collected here in full, tells the story of Ash trying to time travel to aid Xena in an apocalyptic battle against a horde of deadites but constantly turning up at wrong points in her life.A humorous if somewhat basic story — each issue follows the same formula — is ca...
Ash Williams at one time gave Xena and Gabriella a page out of the Necronomicon to summon him in her our of need. Faced with an undead army of overwhelming strength, Xena tore the page asunder and Ash was yanked out of his time and met up with Xena. But not in her our of need. Something/someone was messing with them both. In the end, after multiple time-trips and strange adventures, all three got together and defeated the "mastermind" out to kill them. A fun read that was more enjoyable then I t...
I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.Ok let me first say that while I have seen the Evil Dead movies [about ten years ago ...], I haven't ever watched Xena [although I really want to] or read any other comics for either of them. But I don't really think you need more than a general cultural knowledge of either franchise to read this. I didn't feel like I was 'missing' anything, the story just didn't pull me in. Mostly I just found the repetitive nature of the st...
With excitement, I downloaded this graphic novel because Xena and Ash are such icons. The first two issues in this book were disappointing and added hardly anything to the story except repetition. Beginning in issue three, the action I associate with Xena and Ash actually began to build and I started enjoying this graphic novel. If the first two issues could be condensed into a page or two this would have been an awesome graphic novel full of action and corny jokes that are to be expected. An ok...
This was pretty okay! Xena was spot on, Ash not so much, but the story was great, and even tied in with that cool Xena episode that showed the Xena gang's incarnations as they were brought to life over and over while tied to the karmic wheel. Fun! Plus, Ash was there, I guess!I would have given it a 4th star if it wasn't for the allusion to an old anti gay joke in the last segment. Not cool! They didn't make the joke, but they brought it up, and that's nearly as bad.
