I had no idea this was part of a series and am seriously contemplating going back to read the previous books. In saying that though, this can definitely be read on it's own. The first third or so of this story I was all "Uh, you're being pretty forward with your BOSS..." and the rest of the story "awwwww, so sweet!" And it was a sweet, light hearted read that makes you smile all the way through it.
