Deacon Stephen First Martyred: Disciples of Jesus Christ Preaching (Apostles of Jesus Christ Book 3)

Deacon Stephen First Martyred: Disciples of Jesus Christ Preaching (Apostles of Jesus Christ Book 3)

St. Luke Evangelist Doctor Luke
0/5 ( ratings)
1.Those devout men paid last respects to Deacon Stephen, were not ashamed of the cause for which he suffered, nor afraid of the wrath of those that were enemies to it; the cause is a righteous cause, and will be a victorious one.
2.Saul was bred a scholar, a gentleman, and employed in the vilest work of that kind. He entered into every house, making no difficulty of breaking open doors, night or day, and having a force attending him for that purpose of destroying disciples of Jesus Christ
3. Disciples of Jesus Christ went every where, preaching the word. They did not hide for fear of suffering, nor show pride of their sufferings; but they went up and down to show the knowledge of Jesus Christ in every place where they were scattered.
4.The doctrine Deacon Philip preached was Jesus Christ; for he determined to know nothing else. He preached Jesus Christ to them; proclaimed Jesus Christ to them, when he comes to the crown, throughout his dominions.
5.The people with one accord gave heed to those things which Deacon Philip spoke, induced thereto by the miracles which served at first to gain attention
6.Simon Magus for a long time, in this city, using sorceries; came there by the instigation of the devil, soon after our Savior had been there.
7.As great wickedness before conversion keeps not true penitents from the benefits of God’s grace, so neither should it keep professing ones from church-fellowship.
8.As great wickedness before conversion keeps not true penitents from the benefits of God’s grace, so neither should it keep professing ones from church-fellowship.
9.There may be a great deal of wickedness in the thought of the heart, its false notions, corrupt affections, and wicked projects, which must be repented of, or we are undone.
10.What we read of the word of God highly concerns us to understand, especially what we hear concerning Jesus Christ; and therefore we should often ask ourselves whether we understand it or not
Jesus Christ should die wrongfully, by violence, hurried out of his life, and his judgment taken away; no justice done to him, for he must be cut off, but not for himself. He should die patiently, like a lamb dumb before the shearer, and before the butcher too, so he opened not his mouth.
