I had never read any of the series in which America was previously featured, but when I read she was Puerto Rican and queer, I had to check her out. Boy am I glad I did! There was so much to love in this volume. I am now hooked on this series.
Marvel Comics has published in recent years several titles with woman as lead character, which they have been successful and a good read. I was looking forward to this comic, but I wasn't that impressed. It was just... fine. There were some moments here and there that made me laugh a bit, but it didn't hook me up enough to continue reading it.
I have been looking forward to reading this since I first heard of it. A Puerto Rican, female, from New York, AND SHES A LESBIAN? I mean what is there not to like? Also written by Gabby Rivera? Sign me up. I got the 1st issue for free at a vender last year at Megacon. This past week I bought Vol. 1 because even if I hadn't read it, I know I was going to like it. I mean why wouldn't I? It has everything. Action, gay, females, puerto rican lead, and the premise was awesome.I read the first issue a...
This was awesome. And that ending was just .. perfect *.*
The last page was probably my favorite out of the whole thing like man I love this girl. It's exciting to see her outside of the pages of Young Avengers.
So I'm kind of in love? Also, it's so nice and refreshing to have latina (poc in general) representation, especially coming from this badass queer woman. I'm really looking forward to the next issues.
this book is terrible. so, so bad. the protagonist is unlikeable the story jumps around so much it doesn't make sense and more importantly the protagonist actually feels like she's in the set up phase for a villain. the art is OK. a lot of my friends complained about it but I'm no art critic and I thought it was just OK. not the best, certainly not the best at marvel but better than a lot of indie stuff. I have a lot of complaints about this character, but I'll only state one, a sort of overarch...
What a good start!! I'm curious to learn more about America's adventures at university and herself. Hope Kate shows up more too :'))
Man this was absolutely perfect! America is now one of my favorite superheroes ever! Queer, Latino, and a woman! Plus she punches nazis (seriously the last page was fantastic) what more could you want!
aaaa i've been so anxious for America's own title I'm so proud of my bby girl. This promises a great start to the series, and I can't wait where Gabby Rivera takes us.
'America Chavez...a super strong queer brown girl who can punch holes between dimensions'Fucking yes please!! I couldn't wait until the first volume came out after seeing the AMAZING Beyoncé inspired artwork for issue 2 and I'm so glad I picked this up. America is exactly the kind of hero needed right now; she's a sarcastic lady loving Latina BADASS and I am now completely obsessed with her! *swoon*
I’ve never read anything with America Chavez before, but based on this issue she seem to be a pretty cool character! I’m pretty sure I’ll continue reading this series.
This was everything I had hoped for. America is funny, encouraging, raw, honest and wonderful. I can't wait for the next issue.
HELLO! I finally read it AHHH! This is so beautiful! I wasn't sure what to expect but this exceeded my expectations like crazy (but of course I knew it was going to be good because it's America Chavez. Duh!). I love America so much! I'm so happy that she finally got her own series! [insert I'm so used to giving and now I get to receive meme] SPOILERS !!!!!I wasn't expecting America to have a human gf just because I always imagined her with Kate Bishop, but I'm glad they introduced her gf to op...
I don’t tend to read or review single issues of comics as I like to read them in volumes. But my excitement for America has been evergrowing since I saw this ethereal work of art by Joe Quinones: So waiting till October for the first volume to come out was out of question for me.This issue written by Gabby Rivera and drawn by Joe Quinones was my very first introduction to America Chavez. And if this was any indication of her awesomeness, it won't be my last! I'm in it for the long haul with C...
So anyone who knows me knows I almost NEVER read single issues of comics (the last time was A-Force, which ended...not well), but I've loved America since I read Young Avengers a few years ago. I was also thrilled that she was not only getting a solo series, but that it was being written by someone who shares identities with her. (Because, let's be honest, there are a lot of white dudes writing comics out there.)Anyway, it took me a while to get around to reading this because I don't buy comics
I've never known love like this before! This is so great! I adore every single thing about this book! I'm in love with Gabby Rivera!Okay, to start, aside from Ultimates, I've read every single issue America Chavez appears in. Every issue! Even Teen Brigade. She's one of my all time favorite characters and I loved her the most in Young Avengers! She's a kick ass, lesbian Latina character and I've always been in love with her. I love the nerdy references in this book! Everything from Star Wars to F...
I'm excited for a comic with a queer Latina protagonist. There's something about the dialogue in Marvel comics that feels clunky to me, but I'm not super familiar with Marvel's comics, so I'm interested to see where this goes.
4/5 stars I love America Chavez. I love her as much as I love Kate Bishop, and that's saying something, because I love Kate Bishop. I also love David Alleyne and gay stuff happening, so this first issue? A godsend. It's been too long since I've read something with America as a central character. I'll start with the good. The art is brilliant. The plot feels a lot more lowkey and character centric than other Marvel comics that focus on action and big, major events going on in the world, which I...
Riddled with bad art, bad humor, and bad attitude, America Chavez is nothing to get excited over. Very little in these comics make sense, or make me want to be around America Chavez any more than I have to. She's rude, dumb, and instead of learning from her mistakes- like a real hero- simply chooses to run away or just punch her way out of situations. I'm a lesbian, and I didn't appreciate how much "LESBIAN" was shoved down my throat (there is actually a panel where America goes to her girlfrien...
