Oof... This book was a chore. It might be one of the longest and most difficult pieces I've ever read. >.< But hey, what's college for if not forcing you to read books you'll never read otherwise-- and at super speed? XD I'm glad to be able to say I've read The Iliad, but I probably won't be reading it again.
Very gay but brought me to tears. God that was the most boring book I have ever read. Could have been shorter. Like a solid 100 pages shorter.
SImilar to the Odyssey, and as a part of the well-known Greek mythology, the Illiad by Homer left an impression on me for the story line, and how Homer built up the protagonists with their characters. The work showcased the heroism in the Ancient Greece with cleverness and wit. With an attractive story line, the Illiad is worth considering a hallmark in Ancient Greek mythology along with the Odyssey. With the Illiad, Homer proved himself a notable author in the Classic literature.
Intricate storyline with masses of characters interacting on the awe inspiring backdrop of Ancient Greece
The Iliad is an ancient Greek classic about the war between Greek city states and the city of Troy. The story begins with myths of the Greek gods starting the war over a golden apple. Three Goddesses all want the apple and they decide to let a mortal named Hector decide who gets the apple. Aphrodite promises him Helen of Troy if he picks her and he agrees. Helen was a princess of a different kingdom though and when she disappeared to troy it sparked the start of the Trojan war. The war introduce...
The story was good, but there was too much time spent with things like 'this guy you never heard of killed this guy you won't recognize who was the son of this insignificant guy who killed that guy over there, ect, ect, ect.'
It's Percy Jackson but with more blood and gore. You know those movies with epic but violent battle scenes? The ones where the battlefield is soaked in blood and the camera moves from one fight to another showing a slice here and a stab there and death everywhere. Half the book feels like watching the battle scenes from those movies.Percy Jackson is what first got me into Greek mythology and I'm still a huge fan. While reading the Iliad, I was caught off guard by how much Rick Riordan took from
It's a book which will grow on you as you keep reading it. I found the descriptions of who people were very boring but i think as you keep reading it it calms down a lot in this regard, this, i believe, is because different authors wrote the Illiad.
gay as fuck
More unique kills than final destination.
I was really impressed by the story telling and overall quality of this. I was quite surprised by the gore in the detail of war (although I'm not sure why that would surprise me).I enjoyed the book and learned a little from looking up some of the things that seemed strange to me, for example, the early use of epithets as a writing device. I also found it an interesting from an anthropoligical point of view - the nature of war, pride and bereavement are all studied quite closely.I'm very much loo...
I could say the same thing about the Odyssey about this. It is compelling, the mythology is incredible, and everyone should read this once.
The Iliad is enjoyable, it has some beautiful speeches here and there and heartwarming scenes and the Gods are really funny. I suppose it's a bit repetitive, like Homer has to tell you the name of like every guy fighting and when someone dies, he adds extra gore to spice it up a little and then goes on to give them a backstory to enhance the pain, like "his poor dad will never see him again", "he was taken too young" or "his wife and child will forever wait for his return". Overall it was great....
As a mythology lover I have to say it's amazing.People are telling about the length of the book but reality is the ancient epic like Illiad, Odyssey, Mahabharata etc all contain pages after pages description of war and I find it's common for many old mythology.
Yeah, like it's very easy to see how this is one of the cornerstones of Western literature. The thing fuckin slaps, it's just a slog to read. I also found it funny? Which I was surprised by. I didn't expect to be as invested as I was reading this and actually I learned a lot more from it than I was expecting too. Did I enjoy reading 200 plus pages of quite gory war imagery? No. Did I enjoy reading about how the Gods were consistently fucking about and causing chaos left, right and centre? Yes. I...
Amazing book. I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.
Fucking cool as fuck
The Illiad gives an in-depth mystical memoir of the early occurrence of the Trojan war with a complex array of significant beings in Greek Mythology. However, do not be misguided, this is not as much of a tale of mystic wonder and fantasy, it's a detailed account of fictional war and strategy. In my opinion, wherever that holds any significance, this isn't a book for the fiction and fantasy philes. It's a bulky tome with more names to memorise than A Game of Thrones and a detailed catalogue of s...
This book is the epitome of toxic masculinity and lack of control of emotions. I am curious what traits people found of Achilles that made him a hero to be modeled after. I think this is an interesting study in history and perhaps in war mentality. And all over a woman.
