The Sickening (and Strange) History of Medicine: An Anthology

The Sickening (and Strange) History of Medicine: An Anthology

James Mooney
0/5 ( ratings)
This book attempts to bring back some of the forgotten treatments of the distant past. Here are dozens of chapters discussing medicine from many different angles that were written by great men and women long since deceased. I certainly have not exhausted all the misadventures of medicine. Volumes alone can be written of Quacks and supposed cures that unfortunates had to suffer through, and I may produce another book along those lines in the future. Read this book, enjoy it, and thank God for modern medicine.

Chapters include: Medicines of our Ancestors, article in The Medical Critic and Guide 1920, Eating Dirt for Health - Mud as Medicine, Dung as an Early Form of Medicine 1885, Abortion in Ancient and Bible Times by B. S. Talmey, M.D., 1916, Medical Superstition by Dr Hugo Magnus, Talismans Used in Medicine by Thomas S. Sozinskey 1891, Arsenic as a Cure for Cancer by John Shaw 1907, Anglo-Saxon Medicine by Joseph Frank Payne, M.D. Oxon. 1903 , Medical Folk-Lore By John Nicholson 1896, Saliva and Folk Medicine by Fanny D Bergen 1891, All Healing is Occult by Mary Weeks Burnett 1916, Alchemy & the Philosopher's Stone by C.J.S. Thompson 1897, Plants, Trees and Herbs of the Devil by Richard Folkard 1884, The Caduceus and its Symbolism by Robert Wilson 1922, Scatological Medication, article in Western Druggist 1892, Love Potions in History, article in Chamber's Journal 1893, Folk Medicine and the Influence Of The Sun And Moon by William George Black 1883, The Power of Words in Medicine by Robert Means Lawrence, M.D. 1910, Medicine and Magic by Herbert Stanley Redgrove 1920 , Witches and Magic in Medicine by Robert Chambers 1884, Plants in Witchcraft By T.F.
