This book emerges from an ongoing series of double page articles which have appeared in The National every week since January 2016. The book covers different areas of Scottish and international literature and the arts, sometimes in collaboration with the artist and former Head of Painting at Glasgow School of Art Sandy Moffat, sometimes introducing work on Scottish composers of classical music by composer and musicologist John Purser. In an immediately accessible style, the authors engage in the recovery of neglected composers, artists and writers, locating them in an international context. The authors address the total range and complexity of the subject, from the ancient Celts, 2,000 years BC, to our immediate contemporaries.
