This was a beautiful story.
Sad and haunting.
Two little girls left alone on an island cope as best they can.If you find unanswered questions frustrating, better leave this one alone.
the ending will haunt me
Although I am not a fan of Miss Groff, I am willing to read her to see if she gets better. And she does. This story is about two girls and their struggle after being abandoned. Realism could not get more real here! I enjoyed the "older sister's" tales that were told to the younger; I thought them inventive and portentous. Although I did not quite like the way Groff interjected a future happening, which ruined the suspense of whether they'd get off the island, I note that it shows that the cycle
As a modern fairytale, this didn’t really work for me, but the observations about gender and learning to perform it are interesting if unexamined.
