In today's context, the basic objective of urban development is equitable distribution of resources, particularly: land, infrastructure, services, employment opportunities and housing. Settlement development thus involves assembly, planning, regulation, consolidation and sub-division of land. The policies and coordination of activities of land development and distribution become basic and important components of development. This book provides an insight into the complex issues involved in land policy and partnership management, on which the entire superstructure of urban development rests, with special reference to India. It presents a critical assessment of the various aspects of ongoing land policies and offers the clues for evolving new policies, paradigms and practices. About The Author: A. K. Jain, an architect and town planner, is a member of the advisory board of UN-Habitat. He is a Fellow of the Eastern Asia Region Organisation for Planning and Housing , International Society of City and Regional Planners , Indian Institute of Architects, Institute of Town Planners and the Indian Buildings Congress. He studied at Delhi School of Planning and Architecture, Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies, Rotterdam and University of Birmingham. He is on Editorial Board of the International Journal of Environmental Studies . As Commissioner Planning, Delhi Development Authority, he worked on the Master Plan for Delhi 2021, besides other planning and infrastructure projects. Mr. Jain is a visiting faculty at Delhi School of Planning and Architecture and has authored several papers and books including Urban Housing and Slums and Urban Land Policy and Public-Private Partnerships.
