Really enjoyed this one until the end. Then it turned into one big WTF. Love Farris. Not so much this book.
Another 80s horror novel, this time by Farris. Truly a bizarre book to be sure. Shannon, the main protagonist, is the sole survivor of a murderous rampage by the Axman, who brutally slaughtered her entire family in Kansas when she was 17. Twenty years later, Shannon, after several years of therapy, is now living in NYC, working as an illustrator. After a meeting with her editor, she is riding the elevator down when the power goes out, leaving her stuck in a dark, with no way out. Don, her ex-fia...
Not what I was expecting, but still enjoyed it. Ending was weak though.
The Axman Cometh doesn’t just offer the possibility of reading it in a single setting: it practically demands it. Farris, a horror novelist who was most popular in the 1980’s, writes a foreword in which he asks you to read it straight through. Shannon, the protagonist of this pulpy little novel, was the only survivor of her family when the titular Axman butchered them all one night years ago. In the present, she finds herself in a powerless elevator, convinced someone is in there with her. The n...
fever dream fairy tale
ahh when i was seventeen - read this in one sitting as the author challenges you to do so which means you miss the cracks in the plot and skip over some poor writing. it's a fun ride though and i'd recommend doing it in the one sitting
Very, very much a mindfuck kind of book. Read it in one go. Seriously.
Thought this was a pretty tense read but like someone else says the end way just out there. 4 stars until about 25 pages out then it lost one.
Horror
Really enjoyed this book until about the last 20 pages. Maybe it's because I didn't read it one sitting but I couldn't make heads or tails of that ending. Fun read regardless of the ending, though. Highly recommend.
First farris novel for me. I was drawn to it because the title kicks ass. I won't go so far as to say the book follows.suit, but it was pretty good. I didn't read it in one sitting, as the author suggests, but I don't think it is necessary. If you are looking for something strange, it is worth a read.
Not quite sure why this is supposed to be read in one sitting. I did this but could have quite happily had the same experience reading it over several sittings. Anyway, it was well written, just ever so slightly strange in places, but not nearly as weird as I was led to believe. It is a very good read. Much better in fact than I was expecting it to be, but if I were recommending it to others to read, I'd skip all the hype I've seen in other reviews and in fact at the beginning of the book itself...
Started reading this accidentally instead of another e-book, but once I was I found it hard to stop. Halfway through and it's getting weirder by the paragraph! Very strange but not the strangest book I've ever read.
Strange fable. Fantasy ending wasnt very appealing.
