Treasures of Rattlesnake Hill

Treasures of Rattlesnake Hill

Elizabeth Gillette Baker
0/5 ( ratings)
Nine-year old Ann Deming didn't think she would like life in the country. She was afraid of getting lost in the woods; she didn't like the cobwebs and spiders in the huge brick house on Rattlesnake Hill; the horse nipped her, and she got cats and skunks mixed up. But she did want to search for the historic deed signed by the Indians which would help her father settle the boundary dispute with their crotchety neighbor, Mr. Spring.
The summer became more exciting than she had dreamed when she discovered pages of a romantic diary written by an ancestor, Hester Deming, during the Revolution, and clues to a mystery concerning long-buried treasure. And even after being stranded in a flooded river, having a horse and buggy run away with her, and narrowly escaping a burning -at-the-stake, she preferred to stay with her energetic new friends rather than spend a month at camp.
This is a lighthearted story combining mystery, adventure, and family fun. Its setting is the Berkshire Hills and all the atmosphere of a small town and its traditions has been preserved. The black and white illustrations perfectly combine the mood and action of the text.
