Recently we were tasked with doing some background research into projects
we undertook during those wonderful far off days in the 1980’s and 1990’s for
our forthcoming book ‘Marc Bolan Beautiful Dreamer’ published in September 2017.
As we trawled through contracts, documents, diaries and masses of
Marc Bolan archive materials we stumbled upon a folder containing a huge
amount of typewritten and original handwritten poems that we purchased
from various sources in the 1980’s. We also secured a great deal of material
from the Mark Feld Estate that, had we not protected it
when we did, would have been skipped and lost forever. So, here we were, looking
at material, some of which had been published by the official fan club that we
ran in the same era in the form of a small limited-edition book of poetry ‘Dance
Of Doves’. We also found material that had been published by Lupus Music in the
original book of poetry ‘The Warlock of Love’ in 1969 the rest previously
unpublished. We thought long and hard about what to do. Should the material
remain buried in our files, or should it be published and give a much needed
lift to all those of us who are true Marc Bolan fans…. We have had nothing
new and quite distinctive from the bard himself in a long, long time.
Therefore, we made contact with those we knew at the Estate and we also
contacted Lupus Music and offered the opinion that we would like to publish
the material.
We are therefore delighted to have secured a tripartite agreement with
The Estate and Lupus Music to bring you the first of two volumes of poetry, the old,
the rarely seen and the unpublished. Please note: we did not feel it appropriate to
change spelling for fear of changing meaning - had Marc published these himself, he might have corrected them!
We would like to thank The Administrators for
the Mark Feld Estate, Lupus Music and John Lowther for the front cover portrait.
None of this would not have been possible if not for the talents of the Main Man
himself.
