A KNACK FOR MURDER TOO USEFUL FOR AN ENGLISH NOOSE
“Who knows nothing of the man who toyed with our brethren, and who cut upon the wounded even as they lay down arms?”
Rakehell told of Joaquim Vanderas, degenerate and supreme swordsman, and of his sprees through Europe during the Thirty Years’ War. Men of Blood takes the story to the second outbreak of civil war in England. Gruesome treacheries await in the British field—and heartbreak.
Royalists have hired Vanderas once again for the struggles against Parliament. He has given up drink and feels remorse for years of wanton crimes he cannot wholly recall. The Roundheads remember the atrocities only too well and plan to execute their most infamous prisoner.
But news spares him: Charles Stuart is on the run, and the general offers pardon. Even as a pawn of ambition Vanderas is happy to hunt a king. In the Roundhead camp he meets another such pawn, an Irishwoman known as Venom Rose. And so he finds something that makes him more ruthless than any thirst for wine ever could: love.
