De temps en temps le pere de Manon aimait faire a sa fille le cadeau de quel ques livres, puisqu'elle les preferait a toute autre chose. Mais comme il se pi quait de seconder ses gouts serieux, il lui faisait parfois des choix fort plaisants, quant aux convenances. Par exemple il lui donna un jour le traite de Fenelon sur l'education des jeunes filles et l'ou vrage de Locke sur celle des enfants, de maniere qu'on donnait a l'eleve ce qui etait destine a diriger les maitres et les instituteurs.
