Hilary of Poitiers: His Life and Impact

Hilary of Poitiers: His Life and Impact

Michael J. Ovey
0/5 ( ratings)
Hilary became Bishop of Poitiers in around 350 and lived through a time of political upheaval and open persecution against the Church. During the fairly short time that he held this office, he fought fiercely against internal heresies: many forms of Gnosticism, Arianism in particular. Relatively little is known about his life, however, his works clearly show a man of intense principle, not merely concerned for his own diocese, but seeking to spread the true gospel anywhere that people were being deceived by counterfeit teachings.

Michael Ovey writes the story of Hilary with a clear love and enjoyment. Discussing issues such as disputes between groups within Bible-believing churches and when to resist wrongful use of power by those in lawful authority, he also shows the poignant relevance that this Father's life and experiences have today.
