I have previously reviewed Corpselight, the second book in this series (here), and also interviewed Angela Slatter about her Verity Fassbinder books (here), so I have shown my love of these books already, but please allow me to wax lyrical once more, just for a little while.Slatter manages to create such fantastic characters, and I think that is what draws me back into her books every single time. Verity in particular is such a magnificent character - strong (not just her Weyrd strength, but als...
This is probably the most consistent UF stories of recent times. Its fun, original, Australian setting, with just enough "weird" to not make it over the top. Verity is back, with a new job, family responsibilities, murders, police, friendships tested as well as new and old foes. Good fun. My only complaint is that I feel the setting has bridged out enough yet. It feels a little too self contained. Hopefully it builds into something much larger.
4.5 stars 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻My spoiler free review is below. :D https://rebeccagough.wordpress.com/20...
Fantastic series! The Verity Fassbinder series is what may be compartmentalised as urban fantasy or paranormal fiction; looking closely, this called also be called an engaging, quirky, Australian narrative about love, family, reconciliation, retribution and tolerance – yes there is a lot happening in this novel. Did I love reading this book, this series? Yes I did. Snappy, sharp dialogue with contemporary pop culture references ensure this above all else this is a fun read. Larger than life char...
I'm grateful to Jo Fletcher books for a copy of Resoration to read and review, and for inviting me to take part in the blogtour. This, the third book featuring Verity Fassbinder, kind-of police person to the Weyrd (monsters and legendary creatures) in preset day Brisbane, is, I think, something of a culmination of the arc that began in Vigil and continued with Corpsefire. The events of the earlier books have led to this, with Fassbinder resigning her role working for the Weyrd Council and taking
Having enjoyed both the first and second book in the 'Verity Fassbinder' series (Vigil and Corpselight) I couldn't wait to dedicate some time to 'Restoration'. It most certainly lived up to my high expectations and once again Slatter's writing is beautiful. There is something for everyone in this wonderful addition to the series.I was instantly drawn into the story and my love affair with Verity continued the whole way through. We are landed right into the middle of the action and once again sas...
Another enjoyable instalment in the Verity Fassbinder series, following a sarcastic, witty and edgy heroine who now has even more to lose with a baby and family. As usual, the complex and detailed plot line follows Verity's investigations in the Weyrd underworld, but instead of working for the Council this time, she's working for an evil Archangel wanting to recover some artefacts. This takes her onto a convoluted journey resulting in dangerous paranormal investigations, as she tries to save eve...
I loved the first in Angela Slatter's half normal/half weyrd Verity Fassbinder fantasy series, Vigil, but missed the second. I really felt the loss of not reading the second, so I would definitely recommend starting this series from the beginning and in order. Nevertheless, once again I found myself drawn and instantly charmed as I began to read. Sassy and snarky Verity is in trouble, so much so she has had to send away husband, David, and her baby, Maisie, so they can be safe. She has been forc...
This third instalment in the Verity Fassbinder series opens with a note from the author:“Greetings, dear reader, and welcome to the last of the Verity books in the first trilogy!”Note the last part of that sentence: ‘in the first trilogy’. I am holding onto that little life line, nice and tight, and considering it as my message from beyond that Restoration will not be the last we hear of Verity Fassbinder – even if it does take a little while for her to surface again. Now, I wasn’t too sure where...
I am delighted to once again be part of the blog tour for a new Verity Fassbinder adventure. Sadly this is the last in the current series :( I have absolutely devoured these books and recommended them every chance I can. Angela Slatter's writing is so smart, so witty and so much fun. Her characters are so wonderful to spend time with and the world of the Weyrd folks of Brisneyland is just spectacular. This is urban fantasy with thrills, spills, adventure, horror, romance, battles between good an...
I received a copy of Restoration from Hachette Australia to review. One of the very best authors of Australian crime fantasy returns with another outstanding release in her fast-paced and exceedingly entertaining Verity Fassbinder series. In a world where the magical beings known as the Weyrd remain hidden from the Normal, non-magical population, Verity Fassbinder is a half-Weyrd, half-human agent for Brisbane’s Weyrd Council and is charged with policing the city’s Weyrd population. However, follo...
I picked this book up at the launch after reading the first two in the series. It was great to get back into Verity’s world, especially since it’s based in Brisbane. Loved it!
Full Review HereBefore I was invited to the Restoration Blog Tour, I hadn’t heard about Angela or the series, but I’m glad I had the opportunity to read the trilogy! The series was very well written and I love that she’s an Australian author who set the books in Brisbane! I’m located near Brisbane, but not close enough that I’m super familiar with it, so I wasn’t too sure about the accuracy. However, I enjoyed it whenever a place was mentioned and I had a rough idea of where it was because so ma...
Restoration (Verity Fassbinder Book 3)Author: Angela SlatterPublisher: Jo Fletcher BooksPage count: 387ppRelease date: 9 Aug 2018Reviewer: Theresa DerwinA few years ago, I’d heard really good things about Angela Slatter, so when Vigil came out - the first in the Verity Fassbinder trilogy - I was delighted to review the book. But, I loved it that much, I sent a friend to the London signing to buy me a signed copy.I devoured it in just two days; enamoured with the world of the ‘Weyrd’ in Brisneyla...
Verity is up to her neck in trouble once more. This is a complex paranormal tale of secrets, loyalty, family, love, betrayal and politics. As part three of a series, it's not one that should be read as a standalone. I've read part two in the series, but not part one yet, and this book feels like it has a greater reliance on knowing the part one story. I still really enjoyed it, though. There is an extraordinary cast of wonderful characters. The plot is complex, but set out in such a way that it's...
Arc received by Netgallery in exchange for honest review9/10 Okay, so I have taken a day (or three) to collect my thoughts for this review. I’ve been waiting for this book for what feels like forever, and full disclosure, she is a friend of a friend. This is not actually going to influence my review, it’s juat going to make lunch that much more awkward when said friend decides to tell me that we’re eating lunch in “Angela’s favourite Chinese place” and I make weird fan girl noises.Disclosure disc...
This book was sent to me by the publisher, Jo Fletcher Books, at no cost. It was launched just a week or so ago - hooray!I'm going to be smug and say this is actually the second time I've read this, because Slatter sent me a very early version which, as I say, makes me feel very smug indeed. I've loved Verity since I first came across her many years ago in the Twelfth Planet Press anthology Sprawl; that short story, "Brisneyland by Night," morphed into the first book in this trilogy. This post wi...
Restoration is the thrilling third book about Verity Fassbinder, and this time, Slatter throws us right into a story about angels, strange artifacts, old scores that need to be settled, and a cast of wonderfully weyrd, frightening, and entertaining characters. The story is fast-paced and gripping, with plenty of Verity's trademark hilarious and snappy dialogue (seriously, won't somebody film these books already? they'd make an awesome series/movie). There is danger at every turn for Verity and h...
Excellent. Review to follow on the tour.
I got to read an early version of this and it’s a stellar third part of this great urban fantasy set in Brisbane. Get on it!
