Since our first book in 1989 with this same title, so many of the restaurants featured, have been sold, changed names, gone under due to owners passing, and so forth, that we felt the time was right to do a new book. We counted over 100-new, or takeover restaurants that opened since that first book. We all love to know about the past histories of great all-things-Keys, so we’ve included many recipes from that time in this, our new book. This book has a whole lot more than featured restaurants. We have Dolphins, fish, Turtles, Birds, gift shops, marinas, museums, dive shops, and even an underwater park!
Just prior to printing of this book, Hurricane Irma hit the Keys. Many business had been impacted by this hurricane. So many are memories, but many are in the process of rebuilding. An example is Snappers in Key Largo. We are told that it will be better than ever.
This book is divided in coloration from black & white images of the past, and some of the present, but all our new included restaurants are in color. Of course this is not an advertising piece, but a nod to what is great in the Keys for locals and visitors alike.
However, as we all travel on our stomachs and universally desire to know where and what we can enjoy food-wise, this book is dedicated to offering great dishes that truly will cause wet chins from taste buds that just have not experienced the truly tasty Caribbean offerings that the fine, and some funky food emporiums have to offer throughout this island chain!
Always remember: “A book is new until you read it and this goes for a recipe too!”
