The Impact of Economic Policy and the New Economy on UK Trade Performance

This paper attempts to provide evidence on whether UK manufacturing has fundamentally improved its trading performance as a result of either policy changes or new economy effects or both. It does this by constructing a model which is then estimated quarterly over the 70s, 80s and 90s with a view to finding any structural differences over time and to infer from these the efficacy of policy over the long-term and/or the influence of the new economy.
