Africa’s challenges -- from extreme hunger, terrorism and tribal warfare, to environmental devastation, and corruption -- assume greater complexity every day as all of the issues interrelate and the awareness of them mounts. In various parts of the continent, concerned leaders and groups seek solutions in their own areas of specialization, with
the result being that viewpoints differ greatly among scholars and practitioners on even
the basic definition of what these challenges are. As a response to these divergent perspectives, leaders around the world are now fast embracing the Integral Approach as a way of making sense of and leveraging the strengths of all of these seemingly divergent approaches. The African Integral Development Network is a pioneer in this Integral revolution within the African continent. This compilation of articles taken from the 2nd Annual AIDEN Conference in Calabar, Nigeria, is designed to introduce the Integral Approach from the perspectives of practitioners and scholars in the hopes that their experiences can inspire, inform, and guide other leaders throughout Africa to participate in the integral way forward through complexity.
