Appendix: 16 notes of tribute and newspapers clips written at the time of Mills's death. Cowboy and author Andy Adams wrote:
Mr. Mills endeared himself to me by his constant defence [sic] of things Western. He loathed the Nature-faker and those who wrote and spoke with no authority on the great West.
. The regrettable thing is, the mantle of Enos A. Mills will not fall on the shoulders of anyone. The field which he occupied is vacant—our mountains have no one who spoke with such perfect authority.
About the authors: EBM was his wife; HH was Nathaniel Hawthorne's granddaughter.
