Hard Science Fiction: The Kuiper Belt Warden

Hard Science Fiction: The Kuiper Belt Warden

Navin Weeraratne
2/5 ( ratings)
“I am Chancellor Aryabhata, and I am a telescope. The gravity of the Sun bends light coming from distant objects. It focuses at a point 550 astronomical units out, ten times the distance of Pluto. Centuries ago, I was sent here to capture this light.”
Scholars at an enlightened observatory at the edge of the solar system find a drifting relic from the violent past. It carries a survivor: one for whom the dangers are still very much real, and their return as inevitable as the orbital mechanics that drives them.
The intellectuals of the ‘College’ must choose: will they remain aloof from the system’s apocalyptic wars, or will they use their knowledge to bring peace, and a Golden Age to the damned, inner worlds?
A hard science short story set in the far future, of the veritable micro-galaxy of worlds that is our own, truly enormous, solar system.
Topics touched on in this story are:
- Astronomy at 550 AU, the focal point of our sun
- Artificial black hole creation
- The colonization of the outer solar system, and beyond into the Oort Cloud
A short story for hard science fiction and space exploration fans.
Format
Kindle Edition
