Zam Haley

Before the dawn of mankind, the Earth was a very different place. In the darkness of our prehistory it was populated by the diminutive Geona, who for millions of years were the only intelligent species in the universe. Due to their elastic DNA, they were able to physically merge with any living animal they chose in order to survive, and after millennia of having a preference for the early apes, sharing their thoughts and activities from within a merged brain, they drew humankind into existence. Once the spark of intelligence ignited the human mind, the two species lived in symbiotic harmony and discovered that great power accompanied their union as they learned to manipulate the vast energy that bound them within every cell. Strength, speed, firemaking and even flight were at their disposal, until one day, over a hundred thousand years ago, the Geona all vanished in an instant. No trace of their existence was left but stories, fading with each whisper from parent to child, and as the last human memory of the Geona disappeared into the mists of time, it became as though the Geona never existed at all.

Zam Haley is a kid whose memories of his grandfather are coloured with awe and wonderment. The old man had superpowers, Zam was sure of it, but nobody else ever saw anything, and all Pops gave to his young grandson in explanation back then was a wink. When Pops' health takes a turn for the worse and the Haley family moves to the tiny and remote forest town of Pinestump to be with him, the shocking truth about the human race is revealed to Zam and he embarks on an epic adventure to defend the Earth against destruction at the hands of the paranoid Emperor Vane, with only a few new friends, a pocket of surviving Geona and some age-old powers to help.
