Ide, henry clay, jurist; born in Barnet, Vt., Sept. 18, 1844; graduated at Dartmouth College in 1866. He was a member of the Vermont State Senate in 1882 - 85; president of the Republican State Convention in 1884; and a delegate to the National Republican Convention in 1888. In 1891 he was' appointed United States commissioner to Samoa; in 1893 97 was chief-justice of the islands under the appointment of England, Germany, and the United States; in 1900 became a member of the Philippine Commission; and in 1901 Secretary of Finance and Justice of the Philippines.
