⭐️🪐 We are all made of stardust! 🌞🌏Um...for young people? How about adults too? Some of the concepts still went over my head.
WHAT FUN!!Finally I could read a scientifically corroborated theory about where all the lost socks have gone ..besides many other things. (view spoiler)[(SSSHHHHH ... YES, Dark Matter is the culprit.) (hide spoiler)]Very enjoyably narrated by Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This is the SECOND EVER non-fiction book that I read with joy and excitement (didn't lie, non-fiction and me is like a finger and power sockets : big no no), AND I LOVE IT !!!You know, when someone IS passionate about something, you just CAN tell.I'm 20 almost 21, and I enjoy reading this middle-grade non-fiction book about stars and planets A LOT.
Let's say the lockdown challenged me to revise everything I learned at school. This was fun, in part because I didn't remember much about astrophysics and because back then my teacher was not explaining this good. Now I want a book like this about physics.
I realized semi-recently that books designed for kids sometimes teach scientific concepts more accessibly than books designed for adults. I tried reading the version of this book for adults but struggled to make sense of any of it, so I was relieved when I came across this adaptation. There were still some things in this version that I had trouble wrapping my head around, but I had a bunch of "aha moments" too. It's a really good feeling when an idea finally clicks for me, and I found myself bea...
Reflections and lessons learned:“Astrophysics teaches us that we’re not the centre of the world… it teaches us to have a cosmic perspective”Ok, so maybe I knew a bit more about astrophysics than I thought but this was still a really enjoyable listen and filled in some useful analogies to firm up the basis of my knowledge. Completely relatable examples for a girl with a cheap childhood telescope in Superman and Mighty Mouse being universal protectors (don the cape and sing the theme song - ooompa...
“Kids are never the problem. They are born scientists. The problem is always the adults. They beat the curiosity out of kids.” ~NdGT For kids between the ages of seven and seventy.**If you read “Astrophysics for People in a Hurry” and felt like a few of the topics were over your head, THIS IS YOUR BOOK.
Easy to understand and yet as complex as the universe.
Minus a star just because I hate science back in high school and yes, I was choosing right by social study. So it is not you book, it’s me!But this is a great book to learn about astrophysics in a hurry, for everyone all ages really. Learning about the world and universes is that much interesting! Especially if it was packed with anecdotes that are super funny and full of superheroes references. It also tells some philosophical ideas on human behavior related to how the universe works: that the

Review of the Audiobook read by LeVar Burton Story: 4Performance: 4"The Universe is under no obligation to make sense to you" I've never been interested in astrophysics, and I'm still not interested... yet, this was AMAZING. The whole writing and explanation is very simple, with easy words and real life examples. It has some jokes in between the physical theories and they are actually very funny. Burton's performance was fantastic too. One of the best narrators I've listened to. "But maybe on th...
Last summer I filled my bookshelf with all of this mature and educational reading material, thinking I would be a grown-up and spend my summer expanding my mind and NOT solely reading smut. Astrophysics for People in a Hurry was one of those reads I attempted to help me in my goal. Let me tell you -- most of the book was way, WAY beyond my ability to comprehend. I do find the topics fascinating though. So imagine my surprise when I saw this title out there (*eARC Netgalley). If it's wrote for yo...
I read this book for two reasons 1) I bought it for my 4th-grader and wanted to know what was in it and 2) I wasn’t sure I could handle the adult version. Having listened to several lectures by Tyson I could definitely sense his voice coming through as I read the words on the page. Several funny, kid-appealing asides pepper the book with goodness. I like the encouragement Tyson gives our young scientists to explore, and be amazed by, our world.
Summary: OMG. This guy is so awesome. Instead of being super serious, he just lets his love for the subject come out. I mean, if you're going to teach/preach/get people involved in a field that needs more participation, this is how you do it. Video review at: WhereIsMayLing on IGTV as a part of Black History Month. Would love the support by following Insta. NDT is the bestestestest of everyone I've read in science b/c he knows it so well, he can just say it with joy and love. Too many people in
Really enjoyed this one; very interesting. I loved listening to LeVar Burton read it.
There is so much information included in this book for kids. Neil touches on so many topics outside of just astrophysics including many social issues. But not in such a heavy-handed way that people who disagree with him will likely have much of an issue, just enough that the kids reading this will likely pause, take note, and continue on until presented with the issue again at which point they'll already have some insight. As for the sciencey bits, I'll be recommending this to all the science-min...
My son and I enjoyed this very much! We learned a lot: how they name planets and moons, the four forces of the universe, and why Santa should vacation in Ecuador! The language is informational and witty. And instead of being super serious, NDT lets his love for the subject shine. A wonderful read if you want to dip your toes into scientific theory without getting a headache - even if you do not understand everything, there are so many jaw dropping moments! I especially loved listening- LeVar Bur...
BEST. SCIENCE. BOOK. EVEEEEEER!!! 56252762257265625625276/10 amazing I love it, I loved the cocoa demonstration but really, I loved it All. If you are a space nerd and or lover like me, READ THISZS
My husband read the adult version of this same book and so I also grabbed up the audiobook “young people” version. This little book gave a good taste of what’s happening in the world of astrophysics without overburdening the reader. I like that Tyson shared that there are so many unanswerable questions and how important it is to be able to say “I don’t know.” He also took the time to introduce astrophysicists that many do not know of who contributed greatly to the field, such as Vera Rubin and M...
I really enjoyed this one. I think it's perfect for someone who wants to know about the most important things in the universe, but not in detail. Just the rough things. You can understand it quite well and I didn't have any problems, even though English isn't my first language. This book is made for middle graders and it shows, but that was actually a good thing, because I think this was probably the main reason it was easy to understand.Furthermore, this book is really funny and witty. That is o...
