Mr. Pickles had a hat for every occasion, and going without a hat was as unthinkable as going around without any pants on. But for as many hats as he had, it sadden him that he could only wear one at a time. But then he meets Lady Coco Fitz Tulip, and when their worlds collide, it's hats off.
I love so many things about this book. The savoring and sacrificing of a special hat, the end of exclusiveness and hints of historical relevancy. But I take issue with the idea that Mr. Pockles gets friends and included because he shared his hat. It reminds me of the desperate kid who brings something expensive to school just so that they can get included. They often lose their expensive thing and their dignity. Why couldn't a panda have noticed Mr. Pockles hat and acknowledged his genius and so...
A bit too texty to use in my preschool storytime, but I LOVE the unique hat collection, and the detail in the illustrations! A roller coaster hat! A bedtime train hat! Mr. Pockles has a bit of social anxiety, but loves hats. He inadvertently ends up needing to save the day by providing a hat for a famous panda, and gets himself and half the neighborhood invited to the panda's party. I thought it was darling!
A hat-loving pooch with no friends to speak of, Mr. Pockles longed to attend Hat Day at the PandaPolitan Club. Unfortunately, only pandas were allowed. Then, while out buying himself a treat, he encountered Lady CoCo Fitz-Tulip, and stepping into the breach when that lady's hat was ruined, won both a coterie of friends and an invite to Hat Day...A fun, engaging tale of a lonely individual who finds a way, through his favorite article of clothing, to connect with others, author Sally Lloyd-Jones'...
Mr. Pockles lives a quiet life in his house with his collection of hats, one for every occasion, even occasions that aren't occasions such as eating his breakfast cereal. He's content with his life until one day he realizes that something is missing. While waiting in line for a snack, he watches in amazement as a panda in a resplendent hat breezes in, on her way to an important event. After her hat is destroyed, nibbled by hungry bunnies, Mr. Pockles is moved to offer his very best hat, one that...

This clever picture book has a terrific message for young readers about friendship and kindness. Mr. Pockles is crazy about hats and has a huge collection of them. This is a wonderful read-a-loud, with very vibrant illustrations! Mr. Pockles has many hats that he loves to wear, but he is too shy to wear them anywhere, and doesn't have many friends. This is a beautiful story of how he decided to go out for "Bun Day" and ended up sharing his hat with someone, who at first seemed very flamboyant, but then her real character was shown, allowing her to help others, and Mr. Pockles to help many also. He ended up with many friends, and all of his hats got to be w...
Wearing hats makes you stand out but shouldn't make you feel like an outcast. And for Mr. Pockles he has to come to terms with that. He is able to help his community out and earn the respect of his peers. The story is a bit formulaic but the illustrations are beautiful and the mix of characters is fun!
Very fun! Mr. Pockles is a dog who has many, many hats, and loves to wear them. When the time comes, he shares his collection. What I liked about the story was the lesson of friendship and sharing. And the illustrations were great.
This is an entertaining book with a sweet message and awesome illustrations. The cover is brilliant and will grab the attention of many readers, and the story itself is fun and well-told. I loved Mr. Pockles and his many hats--this is the kind of book I will happily read aloud over and over again! I think this would be a great book to use in a citizenship lesson--talk about being kind and then have kids design their own awesome hat! Review also published at kissthebookjr.blogspot.com
Eehh. Mr. Pockles is friendless. His hats are the most important thing, until one day they are not. He really wants to go to a hat party but only panda’s can go. But a daring rescue will get him a ticket to an exclusive event. There are a lot of references to San Francisco that will go over many readers heads. Plus, the exclusive club… it never becomes not exclusive. Just “friends” are let in. Overall, not a fan of this book.#BBRC #AtoZofpicturebooks
This is certainly a read-again book! A funny story about a little dog and his journey of finding friendships, learning to share and being generous with what he has been given. With a lighthearted and whimsical style of writing Sally Lloyd Jones creates some sweet and lovable characters who are enhanced by the bold and beautiful illustrations. You will even enjoy the illustraions on the cover pages!
Cleverly written narrative about hats, dogs, pandas and friends with strong appealing illustration, this would be a fun read in primary classrooms. Universal themes about sharing and friendship will provide opportunities for discussion. Filled with humor and plays on words, this would be a good addition to a primary classroom collection.
Quite silly and fun, the illustrations are dense and rich, not quite sure how I feel about the story and some characterizations, but the array of hats are fun. Thanks to the publisher and Edelwiess for an advance look.

Delightful story with simple text for elementary readers.Brightly colored illustrations draw the reader in to the story. Mr. Pockles has a hat for every occasion but he's shy and feeling lonely. Mr. Pockles saves the day with a hat for everyone and they all go to the "exclusive" party as guests of this panda.Use to talk about
I read this book to my niece last week, and she absolutely loved it. She always asks for me to “use an accent!” during storytime. Mr. Pockles was narrated by Stewie Griffin. The illustrations in this book are crazy vivid, and I love the lesson here: if you have lots of neat things—just like Mr. Pockles and his incredible hat collection—then why not share with others? Mr. Pockles is one dapper doxie who can’t imagine even leaving the house without a hat. But then he meets Lady Coco Fitz-Tulip, a
