Exploring the World With Our Big Family: Road Trips Through the USA & Europe

Theresa Jorgensen
4.2/5 ( ratings)
When Terri’s oldest of five children completed middle school, she realized that the opportunity to travel with her big family was limited. The window of time to travel together before jobs, sports, and dating would monopolize their lives would be over soon. Yet, there were so many places she wanted to travel with her children. She realized that they couldn't wait anymore and plans an Ultimate Road Trip across the USA, followed by a European Expedition a few years later.

The Ultimate Road Trip USA with 5 kids encompassed 30 states and 20+ national parks over a span of nine weeks. The extended vacation included visits to Mount Rushmore, Devil’s Tower, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, Olympic National Park, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Arches National Park and more. Major cities visited include New York City, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. The family took advantage of multiple kinds of accommodation including hotels, cabins, rental homes, resorts, a ship, campgrounds, and relatives’ homes.

The desire to explore the world more with their kids, the Laws decide to take an extended summer vacation by road tripping through Europe. Starting with a flight and layover in Iceland, they traveled to Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Switzerland, and France. To enhance their travel time, they embarked on a Mediterranean cruise.

With strategic planning and scheduling, your family doesn’t need to take a gap year to see the world. Fantastic travel can be accomplished during the summer vacation months your children have off school. Extended summer vacations build life-long family memories and teach your children about destinations they would normally only hear about in school.
