Now fifteen, Alex Griffin has just found out he’s the last son of Hercules, destined by the fates to fail his father’s famous trials.
With the fate of the gods at stake, Alex Griffin must complete the twelve trials of Hercules all while navigating the even more difficult trials of high school. A shadow at Destiny Rose High School, Alex has spent years on the sidelines dreaming only of one thing--a girl that doesn’t know he exists. Alongside unrequited love, Alex has to deal with rapidly changing emotions for his female best friend, a new bully, and the worries of being just another face in the crowd. Unlike other kids, he also has to prepare to complete his famous forefather’s twelve trials. Beginning on his fifteenth birthday, Alex is swept into a new world of Greek gods, monsters, and intrigue. Every month he is required to complete a new trial culminating on his sixteenth birthday. If he can complete the trials, his family name lives on and Zeus remains in power on Mount Olympus. If he fails, the deceitful Pluto is freed from the underworld and becomes the new ruler of both Earth and the gods.
For his first trial he faces the oversized Lion of Nemea alone.
