Fresh, new approachIt's refreshing to see a continued theme of regret at the death of others, even if they attacked first through greed. There's no glorifying slaughtering the enemy: just the realistic knowledge that it's a case of us or them, and acknowledging the waste of life. The plot moved along well, and the characters were established along with their race's traits and history. I greatly enjoyed reading Any Port in a War and look forward to seeing where Tim takes the Furlorians next.
Great start but my surprise was at the end!I was reading the author notes and I saw the main author wrote Prey. I won’t review that book here (I did it there) but my first thought was “No wonder this style seems familiar!”Now to this book. Good characters, interesting plot, even if it’s a basic step up and save the world, it’s still handled very well. I think the team/litter group can have interesting effects going forward. Can’t wait to read more!
New to KGUGreat new series - looking forward to more! Am wondering if ArchAngel will be interacting with Taj and her friends and family?
Great Great start to another chapter or in the KGU and these guys rock at writing stories that you will want to read again and again.
Any Port in a War - a review by Rosemary KennyThis excellent novel by Princes of Fantasy Thrillers Craig Martelle, Michael Anderle and Tim Marquitz, is Book 1 of the Enemy of my Enemy space series, which works well as a standalone or as the start of a great new series that's a must for your military sci-fi bookshelf! As a battle rages overhead, a spaceship crash lands on the planet below. There the fight for domination continues between the Federation troops, who have the advantage of high-powere...
New aliensI really like this series. I like the cats and the lizards (new aliens) and am looking forward to more. Tim Marquitz is a great author. His characters are very easy to relate to and the storyline keeps your interest. I am really looking forward to the next books.
Great storyI am not quite sure yet. Some parts were hard to really get into. I guess it was so much many emotional break down when I thought there should have been emotional anger in Taj.
Great first bookGood solid characters and intriguing story. Lots of excitement as well. Looking forward to the series. These new characters in the Icu are fun.
If this book had anything to do with the age of expansion in the KG you universe then somebody needs to tell me what it was. This book had nothing to do with the KGU universe or the age of expansion. Only in the beginning of the book did mention Bethany ann and the ark Angel. The book consisted of a planet of kitty cats, OK if you like cats read this book. But I think it was a shameless plug and using the KGU universe as a selling point for this book shame on you Michael. Anderle books like this
It was so good it felt too shortThe story worked, the characters were interesting, of course the universe is amazing, but it was so good, that although it worked start to finish, I wanted more when it ended. Hopefully there will be a follow up book to help solve that issue. 😃
The Cat's Out Of The BagTaj! Your crappy planet is valuable and aliens are coming to kill your people and take it. Taj is a very compelling character. I feel like I am right there with the cats as they fight to exist as a species. I like the action and touch of romance. I look forward to the next book.
Sentient cat world gets invadedThe beginning of the book got the world scene established while presenting several nail biting moments. From there danger surrounded the cats and their young designated leader who struggles through everything to lead her people forward despite all assorted enemies in the way of the cats.
Excellent book... good addition to the Kurtherian Gambit Universe...need more. This is a new forray into the Kurtherian Gambit Universe, and it does an excellent job. The main characters are basically sentient and fairly large "housecats". Taj is the primary character and she fits right in with the other "Alpha females" we have come to love in the KGU. Taj has her faults and strengths just like everyone else, and when pressed she pulls a "Bethany Anne" and kicks butt all the while chastising hers...
GoodGood beginning to the series. Action , good characters and a fast read. Definitely worth your time and attention. Grab a copy !
Different but goodInteresting addition to the Kurtherian Gambit Universe and shows good possibilities. Missed the humor found in most of the other KGU books. Had a hard time connecting with the characters, there were some things I think needed explaining more. But the biggest question for me was, why were four of the young, whom it sounded like were still in training, the only ones responsible for the defence of the civilians? Maybe I just missed something. But loved the ending and will be looki...
Exciting story with great charactersThis is a well written story with characters that quickly come to life. At first I thought the challenges facing them were impossible to overcome, but their ingenious solutions helped them. New planet in the Kurtherian Universe, with another new species. Can't wait for the next installment.
Cat people rockLoved the start to this new series. Also I like the idea that an influx of new tech and new enemies. Will force the growth of a peaceful society in new ways.I look forward to more in this series and to seeing these great characters grow into people that I can care about.
Take my money please!Wyyvans hate humans. After crash landing on a low tech planet they intend to kill everyone they find. The Furlorians just want to survive. This book has humor, family and friends to offset the horror and terror of war. I am captivated by these characters.
Told from the POV of a character who has no idea that the Etheric Federation exists, let alone what it stands for or where her planet and people stand in relation to it, this engaging tale from Tim Marquitz will have you looking at things from a new perspective. Get in on this series early, folks; it promises to be a wild ride of discovery and personal growth as Taj and the rest of the Furlorians come into their own.
TITLE: Any Port in a War: Enemy of My Enemy Book 1AUTHOR: Tim Marquitz and Michael AnderleGENRE: Science FictionPAGES: 237I have been a fan of Space Opera for as long as I can remember.
