The Complete Guide to Shoji and Kumiko Patterns Volume 5

Volume 5 continues on with detailed step-by-step instructions on making hexagonal kumiko patterns started in Volume 4.

It finishes off the asa-no-ha family of patterns with the tsuno asa-no-ha, and two methods of making the stunning yae asa-no-ha. All three have mitsu-kude joints within mitsu-kude joints, so skills in marking and cutting will certainly be tested.

These three demanding patterns are followed by three relatively straightforward but very attractive patterns—rindō asa-no-ha, rindō tsunagi, and kasane rindō.

The last group is the dragon's claw ryūsō family with a couple of interesting patterns—ryūsō kikkō and ryūsō asa-no-ha. Although not overly difficult, each of these patterns presents its own set of challenges.

From calculating pattern dimensions through to listing the most efficient sequence for cutting and assembling the kumiko, everything you need to know to make these attractive and traditional patterns is explained in detail with 89 photographs and line and dimensional drawings to complement and reinforce the instructions.

Detailed dimensional diagrams are provided for all jigs used in making the patterns in this book.
