A collection of 12 articles first published in journals between 1966 and 1995. Earlier papers deal with stuccowork and are directed towards the publication of unknown or little known material, the establishment of provenance and date, and the working out of patterns of typological development. Later papers are concerned more with painting, examining antiquarian issues related to subject matter and iconography, as well as the relationship of subject matter to room function in the decoration of Pompeian dining rooms. Other topics include the influence of Studius on the beginnings of landscape painting, and the choice of subjects in the decoration of a chamber-tomb of the early Imperial period.
