The Golden Stag

The Golden Stag

Ivy Quinn
3.5/5 ( ratings)
To stop a mafia war and save the man she loves, Detective Kat Jager will have to unleash her inner beast.

Katerina Jager has lived for ten long years with the curse her stepmother, the wicked sorceress Sofia Schwarz, thrust upon her. For a decade, she’s struggled with her were-tigress nature just as her younger sister, Tatiana, has worked to keep her inner wolf under control. But they’re the lucky ones. Her brother, Wilhelm, was turned into a deer and hasn’t been seen since, most likely stolen by her wicked stepmother. However, the girls have struggled to find him and help him remember his humanity. To make ends meet, they’ve created a detective agency where they help Chicagoans deal with the mysteries of the supernatural that the cops can’t---and usually won’t---touch.

Enter Vincent DaSilva, the millionaire owner of half the best clubs in downtown Chicago, whose family probably made the bulk of their fortune during prohibition but now owns the city. He’s had a valuable family heirloom, the Golden Stag idol, stolen from his home. He never cared much for it---too gaudy---but his late mother loved it and always told him it was his family’s good luck charm. Considering how cut-throat business in Chi-town is and his loyalty to his mother, Vincent feels he has no choice but to find the Golden Stag. Now he and his assistant, Sam, are trying to track down the antique. He bumps into Katerina and Tatiana one day as they’re tracking the stag, and he realizes his brother---who is less upstanding than he is---must also have use for the heirloom. He wants to get it back first and keep it safe in honor of his mother. So, even if he hates magic, he must ally himself with Katerina to find it.

But a dangerous enemy is hunting them, and the magical underworld of Chicago is gunning for them. Katerina might be falling hard for Vincent. But they’ll have to stay alive and stop a brewing war first, or the only kiss they share will be goodbye!

A modern retelling of the fairy tale “Brother and Sister” with a noir twist.
