Ohhh so the first arc is done! I'm excited for the next ones!
First of all, THE COVER!!! I MEAN JUST LOOK AT IT! Tho we never find out whose hand this is, holding whose heart SPOILERS AHEAD! Aside from the cover, the plot for this issue was horrible. After Isra wins the fight, the Pirate Queen tells her to rest for the night. Then ambushes her and her posse in their staying place, kidnaps the princeling. How is that a good plotline?!Isra comes to rescue Maxim where they have the final battle. While Isra distracts her aunt with her breeze (who knew, cause I...
I LOVE this. When I first started these graphic novels, I said that they would help me determine if I love or hate king Maxim. While I'm still not sure how I feel about King Maxim, I am now certain that I absolutely adore Prince Maxim.I'm really enjoying this part of his story, the friendship, the personal growth and the adventures are so gripping, so well written and the art is so well done!I need more!
Finally stakes get a bit higher as characters play dirty.I enjoyed this issue the best, I believe, since it was hard to foresee what the outcome was going to be.
I had no intention of reading these graphic novels but revisiting the story rekindled my interest. The audiobooks are incredible, by the way. I enjoyed Maxim and Amirah's perspectives in the Conjuring of Light and while I dislike reading prequels whose characters will eventually die, I'm liking Maxim's story. There's an actual history there instead of one being made on the spot for the sake of these graphic novels, that much I could tell from reading the third Shades of Magic book. Also, because
WHAT A BADASS ARTWORK. A good conclusion to the arc. Now we wait for the next one.
Official Rating:5/5 stars 🌟
The artwork was very dark compared to the other issues that came before, but it sets the the tone for the climatic ending for the Pirate Queen. Although, because of the dark colors it really made the critical moments of color (red a with the shifting of blue) stand out. I'm also very much looking forward to the next two arc's in this comic series about Maxim before he became the king we know in ADSOM. Also, in finding out more about him and the women he marries (if she shows up one day in thes...
I seriously LOVED this comic!! I'm not sure if there will another issue or some of form of continuation but I'm ready for whatever comes next. I'm seriously hooked on these! Volume 4 is my favorite so far!
The build up was excellent in the last issues. The ending was great just wish there was a little more pizzazz. But then I am spoiled by Schwab's genius... So...
Much better towards the end but this was way too fast. I know comics are not the same as a novel but this was too quick and too convenient. As much as I wanted to know more about a young Maxim, I don't know if I'll be continuing these.
I’m so sad that I’ve already read all four of these! I should have stretched them out and savoured them but they were just so damn good that I couldn’t help but binge read all of them in one sitting. No matter what form she’s writing whether graphic novel, young adult, middle grade or adult, Schwab knows how to write one hell of a captivating story that you can’t help but fall in love with! I thought this final instalment of the first arc was the best out of the bunch and I honestly couldn’t hav...
Okay this may sound weird but I don't really seem to that fond of these graphic novels, and that might be because I cannot bring myself to care that much for any of these characters or the plot. It just doesn't click with me. That could be because these graphic novels are immensely short and they're over in a flash.I just don't like Maxim that much.Still I will continue with this because I want to see what happens next and if I can like the next novels more. when is the next arc coming out??? i need it more than i need air???
Why I feel it was all too easy?
I like how it ended. Definitely ready to see more of Maxim and the people who are supporting him. The next one, Night of Knives, sounds so good! This one was a good lead up to the next novel and it was a good read.
The story continues. After Isra won the tournament, she challenges the pirate queen but the pirate queen says that the fight will happen tomorrow. Maxim knows it's trap and they come up with a plan to stop the pirate queen. Will they succeed? This story is getting better but having said that, I still don't know how the magic works in this world and I'd like to know that. Again, the art was way too busy especially in the action sequences. I would have enjoyed it more if I had understood what was h...
I just read all four together, great stuff
Shades of Magic #1: The Steel PrinceShades of Magic #2: The Steel PrinceShades of Magic #3: The Steel Prince I will cut out that tongue of yours and make you eat it. I need more of the Pirate Queen, guys. That woman is so fucking vicious. I'm terrified. But the first arc "The Steel Prince and the Pirate Queen" is finished now and I look forward to reading the next arc! This issue (and the whole arc in general) was a bit rushed and ended abruptly but I love it nonetheless. The last two pages are...
.............3.5 stars.............This was a great way to end the first arc of the Shades comic series. I really liked that Maxim doesn’t seem as cocky as he was in the first few issues. But I also know that all of his cocky attitude hasn’t gone away. A solid three and a half stars for this one!
