4,5/5. Awesome in every way except one thing... from a school boy to bad ass magician sooooo quick isn't realistic (I know being magic and all it's already not realistic but you see my point). If not that, every was perfect!
A little better than the first issue thought nothing essential has yet happened.
Oof. Neil Gaiman this ain't.
The Books of Magic Issue 2Plot: From what I can tell there’s a confrontation between Tim’s teacher and one of them (I’ll just call them) Hoods. The teacher corners the Hood in order to find out what she knows. decipher the magic Before the teacher can get any answers tho the Hood bleeds out. Meanwhile, words are starting to appear in Tim’s book again. The next day at school Tim is telling Ellie about a murder that took place by this house and being questioned by the police. The teacher appears a...
I haven't read the original Books of Magic series and this does feel very much in the vein of Harry Potter. But I like Harry Potter and the path of this story is new enough that I'm not sure where the trope will be followed and where it will deviate. I'm enjoying the scenes of angst/temptation in the potential of magic (or it's lack of) and the story's slow pacing does well with keeping me intrigued.I want to see where this goes, though I think when we get there it will be familiar territory. I want to like this. It's not bad...there's just something about it that's not getting me into it. The kid is just not likable or relatable. I don't' really care about anyone in it which makes it hard to be invested. The "teacher" is the only remotely interesting character. The art is not bad but not a style I'm loving. Not to say it's bad quality just less my cup of tea.
Things are becoming a little clearer as I continue reading this new reboot of an old Neil Gaiman Sandman set without having read the original. Tim has a protector. Why is she protecting him though? How did she just realise he is "magical"? I dunno yet. Let's see. I'm also going to visit the original now. I don't think there's any point in me continuing this collection at this point.
An improvement over the first issue, both in art and in story. Still doesn’t hit me as essential reading. With the price of comics these days what this title has to offer is, for the first two issues at least, not enough...
why do I have a feeling he is going to get into so much trouble before he learns to do as he is told. But isn't that always the way with teenagers/kids. What is the saying, with great power comes great responsibility.
I don't really like Tim, yet. But I see potential for growth so there's that.I love the srewdriver wand and the story so far is intriguing. Excited for more!
3.5/5
It's interesting to see the similarities between the original story and this newer version. I hope that I will love this version as much as the OG
