WW I troops travel in convoy to France and are attacked by German submarines. In France the troops are trained for trench warfare. The commander observes French attacks on German trenches and the great loss of soldiers' lives. He determines to find a way to attack w/o the great losses. His plan is original and successful. The attack is stalled w/o the support of French troops as planned and the Americans are forced to fall back to successive defensive trench systems.
