I won this very cute picture book in a Goodreads giveaway. The story references all the popular fairy tales and nursery rhymes that are well known and loved by most children. That, in and of itself, will make for pleasurable moments, when the reader can ask little listeners,, "Who is this?" and "What story do we know him/her from?" In the story, the "old woman" calls her six children to dinner and discovers they are nowhere to be found. She decides to go out searching for her children and does s...
Loved the illustrations and connecting all the classic stories together with my daughter.
This story is a confusion of nursery rhyme characters, all beautifully illustrated. The Old Woman is the lead character of this story and she lived in a book instead of a shoe. When she went looking for her missing children, she visited other books with characters of many other nursery rhymes - all, she discovered, having lost something. The Old Woman was clever and realized where everything had gone. Fun story. It will be helpful to the reader to know the fairy tales because this is quite a combi...
There is nothing "feminist" about a good mother looking for her lost children. Cute story, filled with fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters, but not "feminist."
A story that begins with a woman who lives in a book and has many children who have all disappeared. It goes on from there to include many fairytale and nursery rhyme characters. It's cute and children will pour over the pictures looking for clues. For some reason, it just didn't feel as if this story flowed well. Could just be me.Recommended for one-on-one sharing.
I love plays on fairy tales! This mashup is extra fun when you notice the clues were there all along!
I enjoyed it very much, but then again, I was familiar with all the characters from the various stories mentioned in the book. Pre-read it as a parent, then read the various fairy tales to the child, ending with this one. I think it would be a lot of fun.
Fun story, as the old woman encounters many familiar fairy tale & nursery rhyme characters. Illustrations with the many book houses are neat, too. (Library)
This old woman and her 6 children live in a book and when dinner is ready the children cannot be found. The old woman goes to the three bear's house, Jack's beanstalk and Humpty's wall as she moves through many of the fairytale characters. And it winds up with the children being found and a celebration with all the fairytale characters. A different take on the fairy tales.
Great fun for the grandchildren. Fun original story.
An elementary and up picture book about a old woman looking for her children and bumping into other fairy tale characters along the way. Must have a strong fairy tale base knowledge.
I'll admit I love the concept of the story more than the execution. Different fairy tale characters missing things? Yes, please! And the art! Who wouldn't want to walk down the road and enter into different books, literally? I want a whole Polly Pocket-ish playset based on books that open up like this. The ending of this story didn't quite come together for me, but I enjoyed the book anyway.
This is my new favorite kids book! The artwork is phenomenal and the story is very clever, and brings up some good talking points for the reader and kids.
The Old Woman’s children are missing. So she goes to the neighboring books in search of them. She encounters characters such as Jack and Jill, Jack (and his beanstalk), the three bears, Humpty Dumpty, even the three pigs ... all of whom are also missing something. So, she is joined by all the characters who are in search of their own items. “They traveled through every book in the village on the bottom shelf.” Then, they cross over into the Dark Woods. And, of course, it’s the Big Bad Wolf who h...

This has to be one of the best, most original, and most imaginative picture books I've read so far!

This popped up as a recommendation for me and I'm so glad it did! This was adorable, and the illustrations were gorgeous.
I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. I love the fact that the book references many other fairy tales, and the illustrations are supercute. My granddaughter is going to love this one!
I love the book. I gave it to my grandson. He love it when we read to him. I only give books to my grand kids. So thank you for this great book.
