First published as two separate books, I noted that some of my readers would prefer to read less about the dogs and more about our adventures. Putting the animals centre stage was an experiment in literary presentation, gaining some very positive feedback. However, there are many of you who may not feel as strongly about dog participation but are still interested in the other aspects of our unusual lifestyle. Therefore in this update to the original version, serious editing has taken place which I trust will help the stories appeal to a wider audience. I know that without our canine friends, none of them would have happened anyway, so all due thanks to them.
It is interesting to note that the twenty years or so since these events took place have seen some radical technological advances. Our time-line was when many of the things related to mobile communications was still in its infancy, and subject to more glitches than today. What we considered to be cutting edge technology then is commonplace now, and I trust the reader will appreciate that things were not as easy for us as they are at present, and enjoy the story in the spirit in which it was written. I was persuaded to share some of the writing duties with Mike, my fellow traveller.
