Robert Poole III, MD is a 91 year old retired family physician, who delivered healthcare to the community of West Chester, Pennsylvania between 1955 and 1995. During that interval he was enamored by the scientific progress in the art of medicine that almost doubled life expectancy. However, he was puzzled by a strange increase in patient depression and anxiety. In response to a casual invitation to write, he concluded his first book in 1999 with the observation that for some strange reason patients were "living longer but enjoying it less".To understand that paradox Dr. Poole read extensively during his early years of retirement, accomplished a degree of understanding and in 2011 published a second book, The Faltering Health of a Great Nation...My Uncle Sam Needs a House Call. In hindsight, that publication probably did shed some light on the pathogenesis in process.By 2018 Uncle Sam's decline in health had become more severe--greed, dividedness, crime, drug addiction, the trafficking of women and children, sanctuary cities and legalized marijuana spreading from state to state. During that interval Uncle Sam's government of the people by the people and for the people has become increasingly dysfunctional. Dr. Poole uses the effective medical model for research to confront issues of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis in this third book, From Gratefulness to Greatness, Reclaiming the Swamp.
