ABOUT THE BOOK This book is written with the objective of demystifying for Indians, China and its decision making processes. The author believes that India and China should be in strategic partnership. The People’s Republic of China , was founded on October 1, 1949, that is, more than two years after the creation of independent India in 1947. Both nations have had cultural ties over several millennia but the period after 1949 has seen distinct challenge leading to possible nuclear confrontation and both countries competing in accelerating their economic development. Both nations being today the two most populous and fastest growing economies in the world are of extreme importance in the emerging new global order. This book attempts to analyze the progression of the diplomatic, military and economic relations between these two nations, and ascertain the likely future of the relationship, as well as propose the framework of productive, mutually beneficial and harmonious relations between China and India. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Dr. Subramanian Swamy, born on September 15, 1939 in Mylapore, Chennai, is the classic ancient Greek concept of a “Scholar Politician.” Presently, he is on his sixth term as a parliamentarian. He has been twice Union Cabinet Minister. Dr. Swamy began his academic teaching career as a Harvard Professor of Economics at a very young age. He became Professor of Economics of IIT/Delhi before entering Parliament as a MO in 1974. He was later Member of the Board of Governors at IIT Delhi, and member of the IIT Council of all IITs. Dr. Swamy won his PhD in Economics from Harvard University after being mentored by Nobel Laureates Simon Kuznets and Paul Samuelson. With Samuelson, he also co-authored research papers on Index Numbers and GDP Concept published in American Economic Review and Economic Journal . He was a founding member of Janata Party in 1977, and became its President in 1989.
