Legend of Lotfiya

Legend of Lotfiya

Andy Smart
3.3/5 ( ratings)
This chilling romance tells the story of Lotfiya and her childhood sweetheart Amin. In a tale that flows around one of Cairo's oldest houses and the great Mosque of Ibn Tulun, Lotfiya becomes the victim of terrifying forces. Knowing of the rumors concerning the ancient well in her house, and its powers to tell the future, Lotfiya has always feared it. But when Amin returns, she cannot resist testing the legend. One look inside the well is enough to unleash mad waters which pursue her fiercely until she is saved by a mysterious intervention. The story is adapted from elements first retold by J.G. Gayer-Anderson in a book entitled iLegends of the Bait el Kretliya/i . John Gayer-Anderson collected several legends surrounding the house which he occupied and restored during the 1930s-40s. His story of Lotfiya was also broadcast on Egyptian radio on the occasion of the wedding of King Farouk in 1938. The house is open to the public.
