This is a wonderful book about so many areas of professional women's lives. Each story is unique, but the common threads throughout are about overcoming prejudice, grit, the power of groups, and living academic lives. Laced though all that is Americana's history from the 1940s up until now. Highly recommended.

Fabulous read! As someone who earned a history PhD from the University of Mississippi in 1997, in my early 40s, this book speaks to me as few others have. I am familiar with many of the places mentioned, and studied and worked as a grad assistant under one of the contributors.I only wish I knew much of what this book shares when I was in grad school and had known to seek out support and learning in the profession as these women did.Perhaps that would have afforded me the chance to pursue my love...
